Job Title: Customer Service Representative - Golden Valley Campus
Job ID & Hours:

#83424 - 32 hrs/week, includes every other weekend

SUMMARY OF PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet customers and promptly respond to routine customer inquiries and questions
  • Actively assist and advise customers in the adoption of companion animals
  • Accurately process animal adoptions, customer holds, and merchandise sales in accordance with established procedures and guidelines
  • Open and close adoption center, including securing building, preparing daily reports and balancing of cash drawers
  • Accept and properly register stray and surrendered animals from individuals and solicit fees for services
  • Complete documentation and follow-up on surrender scenarios requiring ownership verification
  • Accurately process animal reclaims, returns and collect appropriate fees in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Accurately and promptly process lost and found pet reports

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Minimum one year of work experience in retail or customer service position involving personal contact with customers
  • Preferred candidates will have knowledge of health care, behavior, control and handling of dogs, cats and other companion animals
  • Good organizational skills and ability to follow directions
  • Good problem solving skills and ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of people
  • Must be able to communicate with public in a positive, educational manner
  • Must communicate clearly and effectively in English
  • Basic computer and typing skills
  • Available to work a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Willingness to travel to other Animal Humane Society sites as assigned to meet staffing needs

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate incoming animals for possible placement in the Adoption Center
  • Perform physical exams of incoming animals surrendered to the Animal Humane Society and treat according to shelter policy
  • Perform daily treatments and monitoring of shelter animals in accordance with shelter policy
  • Complete medical and surgical procedures in a competent, safe and efficient manner
  • Assist in all aspects of surgical sterilization on all adoptable animals
  • Perform Behavior Evaluations on shelter dogs as part of the evaluation process
  • Enter required data into computer system
  • Perform humane euthanasia on animals deemed not adoptable per shelter protocols
  • Work collaboratively with all other staff in the animal services department to ensure animals are being cared for properly and moving through the system efficiently
  • Respond to customer problems and concerns regarding animals adopted from the Society as necessary
  • Participate in special events and other duties as assigned
  • Assist the staff veterinarian with the examination of animals seized during a cruelty examination

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician preferred or minimum of one year of experience as a Veterinary Technician
  • Preferred candidates will have animal shelter experience
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record
  • Ability to effectively handle and control incoming animals
  • Ability to handle complex and/or emotional situations
  • Ability to accurately evaluate the health and condition of animals
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Capable of working independently, multi-tasking and prioritizing

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform janitorial duties which include, but are not limited to:
    • Clean and sanitize bathrooms
    • Wet and dust mopping
    • Dusting
    • Trash removal
    • Recycling
    • Window washing
    • Meeting set up
    • Vacuuming
    • Seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal
    • General cleaning as requested or needed
  • Record all needed repairs, repair as directed, report ALL repairs to supervisor, and follow up with staff.
  • Complete all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintain daily upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
  • Ensure Animal Humane Society building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
  • Operate motorized equipment used for cleaning.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Respond to pager calls to assist with incoming animals, food program pickup, and donations
  • Euthanasia restraint
  • Ensure proper feeding of animals
  • Move animals throughout shelter as needed
  • Perform spot cleanings in Adoption Center
  • Daily cleaning of transfer cages, litter boxes, dishes, laundry and donated goods
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma required, some college education preferred
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Leadership abilities, good problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Clean driving record and ability to travel in the metro area required
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, as well as bend, squat and lift heavy objects

  • Ability to use training methods in compliance with the American Humane Association's "Guidelines for Humane Dog Training"
  • Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of euthanasia.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruit, interview and assess potential new volunteer placement for all areas of volunteer programming to assure shelter needs are met.
  • Schedule and conduct regular new volunteer orientation and training programs as new volunteers are introduced into the organization.
  • Evaluate volunteer skills and abilities to support greater compatibility in the placement of the volunteer in support of volunteer retention and quality care for the animals.
  • Monitor the work performance of volunteers on a continual basis, provide constructive and positive feedback, and take corrective action whenever necessary to ensure work is done in compliance with the policies, procedures and expectations of the shelter.
  • Orient volunteers to company policies and procedures, clearly communicating job duties and responsibilities to insure individuals will proceed with certainty in the performance of their positions.
  • Support and promote the development of a strong, positive staff and volunteer working relationship through the approach of collaboration and teamwork.
  • Create a working climate in which volunteers are motivated to develop their skills and abilities. Demonstrate by personal example the desired standards of conduct and work performance.
  • Address and resolve volunteer concerns or complaints and/or additional training needs.
  • Maintain volunteer files, statistics and database for tracking all activities within the volunteer program areas.
  • Participate in planning groups and other department meetings to represent the volunteer department and to assist in planning volunteer participation as needed.
  • Support and promote meaningful recognition programs for volunteers.
  • Be familiar with all aspects of shelter operation and the job requirements of staff in order to understand volunteer participation in programs and answer or refer questions to others accurately.
